See which heating-aid door has your state’s name

Heating aid opens on a state calendar, not on one national day.

  • Illinois and Pennsylvania only
  • About 3 minutes
  • Not an eligibility decision
  • Checked 2026-10-04

Not an eligibility decision. These dates are not the rule for any other state.

The short version

LIHEAP is heating help, and it does not open on one national morning. This page only read Illinois and Pennsylvania. After you guess which door opens first, the free app repeats the date those two states posted. It will not say you qualify.

Before any date

Income limits, documents, and the benefit amount are on the state pages. This guide does not apply them. If you might be without heat, contact the state office named below rather than waiting on a calendar line. A date is not an approval.

Two doors, two frames

It is easy to hear “heating aid is open” and picture one door for the whole country. The frame has a state name on it. Illinois posted one calendar. Pennsylvania posted another. A neighbor across a state line is not standing at the same door.

Heating aid opens on a state calendar, not on one national day. After this, you can tell the Illinois start lines from Pennsylvania’s scheduled open date, and you can see that this page has no third state.

Which door do you think opens first?

The comparison is only Illinois’s priority line, as that page defines it, against Pennsylvania’s scheduled season open. It is not about whether you qualify.

Which date comes first?

The calendar is built by the state

Expecting one national open day is not carelessness. Heating aid is administered by states, so the public page is a state door. That answers “when does this state say people may start?” It does not answer “does this household qualify?”

From the state’s side, a staggered start can be how a limited season is organized. This page does not claim a motive. It only repeats the dates on the two pages it opened.

Now read the door that matches

The free tool: See which heating-aid door has your state’s name. You pick Illinois or Pennsylvania, and for Illinois you pick which line on that page you are reading. It shows the date that page posted. If you pick another state, it stops. It does not ask for income.

The result on this page is free. A site-wide pass, pay what you can, is only a preview. It is not a separate charge to save this result. The pass would be for a medical bill dispute letter, a state heating-aid checklist, and a subscription cancellation script pack. Nothing on this page can charge you.

How we got these dates

There is no formula. The dates are copied from the state pages checked on October 4, 2026.

Illinois DCEO says the LIHEAP application period is October 1, 2026, to August 13, 2027, or until funding is exhausted. Beginning October 1, 2026: older adults age 60 and older, individuals with a disability, households with at least one child age 5 and under, and households that are disconnected, have a disconnect date within 7 days, or have less than 25 percent in their propane tank. Beginning November 1, 2026: all other income-eligible households.

Pennsylvania DHS says the 2026–2027 LIHEAP season is scheduled to open on November 2, 2026. This page does not copy Pennsylvania’s income table or grant range into the tool.

Limits of this guide

  • It does not say you qualify, and it does not estimate a grant.
  • It does not cover any state except Illinois and Pennsylvania.
  • “A young child” on the Illinois page means a child age 5 or under. “Facing a shutoff” on that page means disconnected, a disconnect date within 7 days, or less than 25 percent in the propane tank.
  • Funding can run out. The Illinois page says the period runs until August 13, 2027, or until funding is exhausted.
  • The bill-jump unit on this site does not decide eligibility either.

Who this will not work for

  • Someone outside Illinois and Pennsylvania. This page does not know that state’s door.
  • Someone who needs an eligibility decision. Use the state page or local agency.
  • A crisis with no heat. Do not wait on this prototype. Illinois lists 1-833-711-0374. Pennsylvania lists 1-866-857-7095, and 711 for people with hearing impairments. Those numbers were on the pages checked October 4, 2026.

A pitfall

Anyone who asks you to pay before you can see a public application date is charging for a calendar. The date on this site is free. Seeing the date is not an approval.

A question, after the result

Should heating aid be described as “open now,” or as a door with the state’s name on the frame?

Try the tool. It repeats the Illinois and Pennsylvania dates only. Heating aid opens on a state calendar, not on one national day.
