See what the part you eat costs

The sticker is for the whole bag. The cost that counts is the part you eat.

The short version

This is for someone who bought a package and did not eat all of it. The sticker is the price of the whole package. The cost that counts, if you want it, is the part that was eaten, plus what was left behind. In about two minutes you can see both. There is no savings range. Nothing here was checked against a store, and it does not say the food should have been finished.

The bag and the plate

You paid for the whole bag. Some of it was breakfast. Some of it is still in the cupboard, or it was not eaten. The sticker does not split those two stories. It only names the whole.

After this, you can take a price, an amount bought, and an amount eaten, in the same unit, and see the dollars that were eaten, the dollars left behind, and how the price per unit changes when the denominator changes.

What did the part you eat cost?

This bag is made up so you can practice. It is not a store price. The split stays hidden until you choose. Six portions eaten out of ten is not advice to finish the bag.

Which number is the cost of the part that was eaten?

The sticker is allowed to be the whole bag

Using the sticker as the cost of what you ate is an easy slip, and it is not a personal failing. The sticker answers one question. The plate answers another. A design guess, not a diagnosis: the denominator is the whole bag until someone writes the smaller one down.

Leaving food is sometimes the right call. This page does not say you should have finished it. It does not score the meal. It only shows the dollars on each side of the split you type.

Now run your own numbers

The free app takes a price, an amount bought, and an amount eaten, in one unit you pick. It shows eaten dollars, left-behind dollars, and both per-unit figures. It does not ask for an account. The answer is not behind the offer on that page.

The result on this page is free. A site-wide pass, pay what you can, is only a preview. It is not a separate charge to save this result. The pass would be for a medical bill dispute letter, a state heating-aid checklist, and a subscription cancellation script pack. Nothing on this page can charge you.

How we calculated this

Eaten dollars = price × (eaten ÷ bought). Left behind = price − eaten dollars. Price per bought unit = price ÷ bought. Cost per eaten unit = price ÷ eaten. In the made-up bag, that is $6.00 × (6 ÷ 10) = $3.60, left behind $2.40, $6.00 ÷ 10 = $0.60, and $6.00 ÷ 6 = $1.00. Both amounts use portions. Nothing is converted.

The app uses the same arithmetic and rounds eaten dollars to the cent. It refuses an eaten amount larger than the amount bought. It refuses an empty or zero price, bought amount, or eaten amount.

Limits of this guide

  • It does not check a store or a receipt.
  • It is not nutrition advice, and it does not say the food should have been finished.
  • It does not price spoilage, sharing, or cooking loss unless you type that into the eaten amount yourself.
  • Help Finder and medical bills each have their own page. They are not in this article.

Who this will not work for

  • Bought and eaten amounts in different units. The app will not convert them.
  • An eaten amount larger than the amount bought. The app refuses that.
  • A benefits, medical, or diet decision. This page does not make one.

A pitfall

Anyone who treats the leftover as a personal failure, or asks you to pay before seeing the split, is adding a story the arithmetic does not have. The split on this site is free.

A question, after the result

Should a package show the price of the whole bag only, or also leave room for the part that gets eaten?

Try the tool. The sticker is the whole bag. The cost that counts is the part you eat. That line does not include your numbers.
