The short version
This is for someone in the United States whose power, gas, or water bill does not match the bill they remember. The remembered bill is the shoreline. This month is the tide. In about two minutes you can see the jump and the jump per day, from numbers you type. This page does not look up a rate. It does not say the charge is wrong. It does not decide whether anyone qualifies for help.
The bill you can still picture
A bill arrives and the total feels far from the one in your head. The total is one number. The period might be longer. A usage line might have moved. A fee line might be new. This page cannot see which of those happened. It can only measure the distance between the two totals you enter, and spread that distance across the days you enter.
After this, you can name that distance without treating it as a verdict.
How far did the tide move?
This bill is made up so you can practice. It is not a company charge. The per-day line stays hidden until you choose.

Which number is the jump per day?
The tide line
The jump
$48.00
$128.00 − $80.00
Per day
$1.60
$48.00 ÷ 30 days
The tide rose $48.00. Spread across 30 days, that is $1.60 a day. This made-up pair does not say why.
Your guess named the whole jump. $48.00 is the distance between the two bills. The per-day line is $1.60.
Your guess matches the per-day line. The shoreline was $80.00. This month is $128.00.
Your guess kept the shoreline. In this made-up pair the tide rose. The page still does not say the bill is wrong.
A higher total is not yet an explanation
Feeling the jump before you can name it is ordinary. The bill you remember is a shoreline your attention already drew. A design guess, not a diagnosis: that remembered total anchors the glance, so the new total reads as “too much” before the days and the lines have been read.
This page does not scold you for the bill, and it does not accuse the company. It measures a distance. The reason, if you want one, is a question for the bill itself.
Questions, not answers
These are questions to ask the company or to look for on the bill. This page does not know which one happened.
- Does this bill cover more days than the bill you remember?
- Did a usage number on the bill change?
- Is a fee line new?
- Do the start and end dates match the month you have in mind?
Now run your own numbers
The free app takes the usual bill, this bill, and the days in the period. It shows the jump, including when the bill fell, and the jump per day. It does not ask for an account. It does not look up a rate. The answer is not behind the offer on that page.
The result on this page is free. A site-wide pass, pay what you can, is only a preview. It is not a separate charge to save this result. The pass would be for a medical bill dispute letter, a state heating-aid checklist, and a subscription cancellation script pack. Nothing on this page can charge you.
How we calculated this
Jump = this bill − usual bill. Per day = jump ÷ days. In the made-up pair, that is $128.00 − $80.00 = $48.00, and $48.00 ÷ 30 = $1.60. A negative jump means the tide fell. The app rounds the per-day figure to the cent when the days do not divide the jump evenly.
No rate is fetched. No assistance program is linked. No charge is called wrong.
Limits of this guide
- Not an eligibility decision. Not a statement that the bill is wrong.
- It does not read the meter, the tariff, or the calendar on the bill.
- A jump can be a longer period, a usage change, a new fee, or something else. This page does not pick one.
- Help Finder and medical bills each have their own page. They are not in this article. This article does not link to a benefit program.
Who this will not work for
- Someone who needs a rate check or a benefits decision. This page does not make one.
- A period whose length you do not know. The app refuses empty or zero days instead of guessing them.
- A medical, legal, or housing dispute. This page does not handle one.
A pitfall
Anyone who tells you the bill is wrong, or that you qualify for help, from these two totals alone is skipping the bill. The distance on this site is free. No program is linked from here.

A question, after the result
Should a bill show the jump from the bill you remember, or only this month’s total?
Try the tool. The bill you remember is the shoreline. This month is the tide. That line does not include your numbers.
