The short version
This is for someone in the United States adding up what they pay with a place to live. Rent is the front door. Parking, a pet line, a utility you type, insurance: those are the hallway. In a few minutes you can see the monthly total, the year, and each line’s share. The amounts are whatever you type. This page does not say a rent is fair, and it does not read a lease.
The number on the listing
A listing leads with rent. The month you actually pay can include other lines that never make the headline. They are still part of the month if you pay them with the place.
After this, you can list those lines and see the month they add up to, not only the door.
Which number is the whole month?
This list is made up so you can practice. It is not a listing and not a lease. The total stays hidden until you choose.
Front door
$1,400.00
Made-up rent
Hallway
$110.00
Made-up parking $75.00 and pet $35.00
Which number is the whole month, not the year?
The hallway
The whole month
$1,510.00
$1,400.00 + $75.00 + $35.00
The year
$18,120.00
12 × $1,510.00
The month is $1,510.00. The year is $18,120.00. Rent is not the whole month. In this made-up list, rent is about 92.7% of the month.
Your guess stopped at the front door. The hallway adds $110.00, so the month is $1,510.00.
Your guess matches the month. $18,120.00 is the year, twelve of those months.
Your guess named the year. The whole month is $1,510.00. The year is 12 times that.
The listing is allowed to lead with rent
Reading the rent as the month is a common first glance, not a mistake of character. Rent is the front door because that is the number the listing repeats. A design guess, not a diagnosis: once a cost is split into rooms, each room feels separate, and the hallway is easy to leave out of the sentence “what the month costs.”
This page does not say your rent is high or fair. It adds the lines you choose to write down.
Now run your own numbers
The free app starts with rent, then lets you add other monthly amounts you pay with the place. It shows the month, the year, and each line’s share. It does not ask for an account. The answer is not behind the offer on that page.
See the whole month, not just the rent
The result on this page is free. A site-wide pass, pay what you can, is only a preview. It is not a separate charge to save this result. The pass would be for a medical bill dispute letter, a state heating-aid checklist, and a subscription cancellation script pack. Nothing on this page can charge you.
How we calculated this
Monthly total = the sum of the lines. Yearly = 12 × the monthly total, already in cents, so it lands on a cent. In the made-up list, $1,400.00 + $75.00 + $35.00 = $1,510.00, and 12 × $1,510.00 = $18,120.00. Each share is that line divided by the monthly total.
The app refuses a blank name, a blank amount, zero, and a negative amount. It does not look up a market rent or a local rule.
Limits of this guide
- Not legal advice. Not a fair-rent promise. Not a lease review.
- Amounts are whatever you type. A line you leave off is not in the total.
- A yearly figure is 12 times the month you entered. It is not a lease term and not a prediction of a rent change.
- Help Finder and medical bills each have their own page. They are not in this article.
Who this will not work for
- Someone who needs a lawyer, a fair-rent decision, or a reading of a lease clause. This page does not provide one.
- A one-time move-in cost you do not want in the monthly total. Leave it off, or the month will include it.
- A benefits decision. This page does not make one.
A pitfall
Anyone who calls a rent fair or unfair from this total, or asks you to pay before seeing the sum, is adding a judgment the addition does not make. The total on this site is free.

A question, after the result
Should a listing show the rent alone, or the other monthly lines beside the front door?
Try the tool. Rent is the front door. The rest of the month is the hallway. That line does not include your numbers.
